Chinese New Year!

China Town

This was a FUN afternoon!! Last Sunday Michael and I (you can just see him in between the columns) headed in to the City together to celebrate Chinese New Year in China town, something I'd never done before! Now I know it's not the real China LOL but I had a ball, so much colour, music and movement. Being the Year of the Dragon everyone was extra enthusiastic. It was amazing! I didn't bring my camera this time, was worried it would rain but we took some nice shots on Michael's iPhone to help remember the day, here are just a few. Now just to choose my Photo Of The Day. ;)
Just a few Chinese New Year Memories...

With Michael having spent so much time in China over the years, working and living there as well as visiting to catch up with friends, China obviously holds a special place in his heart. Going along to celebrate was a really cool thing to do, we strolled through the markets, listened to the beautiful singing and watched cute little china doll dancers. There was definitely LOTS of excitement as the loud drums started and the dragon dancers began for sure. So colourful and full of life! I just love experiencing a little of other cultures from around the world. Michael had a grin at the firecrackers though (they were SO loud!!), said they were just "babies" compared to the huge ones they play with when he goes overseas. LOL I have photos from his trips of him with crazy sized crackers, usually celebrating the marriage of one of the local couples.

Mostly we just joined in with the happy crowd and then sat back, relaxed, chatted and had great food while watching the various Chinese artists on stage. I had the yummiest seafood soup with an icy lychee tea! Michael is still learning Chinese, such a hard language, and it was great for him to be able to practise a bit too as the event was held in both Chinese and English. What a great day!

Jake went to china in may representing his school, he loved it and we were so excited for him to have the opportunity to travel overseas at the young age of 14, I must admit I was terrified to let him go without us but his principal is great and took wonderful care of him. I love having my Chinese " tassels" jake bought back with him through out the house, such a wonderful reminder of his experience . It looks like you had a lovely day!!!!!!

Oh Leah how absolutely wonderful for your Jake! Michael just adores going there and even though it's generally for work he loves it. We did have a great day, Michael is keen to celebrate a Chinese new year in china itself, maybe next year!

I was thrilled that he went, and our amazement that our baby boy had the chance to go overseas continued on only 8 weeks later when Britt had the chance to go to the USA and dance at Disneyland, universal studios and Hollywood boulevard , so proud of my 2 biggest babies at ages 14 and 12. How exciting for micheal to work in china, have you been over to visit while he is there?

Lol not blogging or facebooking , we decided to really discourage the kids from Facebook as when it became popular jake was a Pre teen, so far it's working ok, they don't mention it at all. I really need to blog again, jake was involved a a 'sister city' exchange with Tonling no 15 middle school and nyngan high school, he flew to shanghai then bused it to Tonling where he spent 5 days then flew to Beijing for all the tourist stuff then flew home. It is the 4th year of this exchange with our school, so inOctober the Tonling students came to nyngan and spent time here and in Sydney. Jake was part of six students picked to go, so next year britt will have the opportunity to be chosen when she isin year 9. Sweet of micheal to ask! Have a great week , we go back to school 6th feb, I work school terms with my new job as a therapy facilitator in an early invention service
